Small relays may be used for high RF powers if the contacts are closed before
RF is applied. In itself this is beneficial for long contact life and applies
to ALL relays.
We have a diagram for delay operation with PTT f.o.c. with the SDS relays.
Power ratings in this catalogue are for normal use, not delay use.
As in every HF design good layout and mounting is important: if copper clad
board is used leave plenty of copper and at GHz frequencies make the tracks
wide enoughs (best is to calculate for 50 ohms, see Bouwboekje 4; easy
calculations via our RF CALC software package).
Using hard wired mounting the pcb relays: feed cable direct to the pins
(the HF pins through a scrap of tinplate and earth the screen of the cable to
the tinplate).

SDS HF POWER relay

These print (pcb) type relays are used for power switching with much success,
even directly wired (hardwired). Some go up to 4 GHz !
All SDS'es come with free datasheets free of charge, on request.
For preamps etc. you can choose a DPDT type, thus needing only one, in which
case it is good to know that with SDS all RF contacts for both sections are
grouped oppopsite. However, purists use 2 relays nevertheless.
Coil voltages 12V, unless otherwise stated.
Another hint: using the DPDT models you can put the contacts in series to
improve HF characteristics even further, even at penalty of a slightly
increased insertion loss, if put in parallel the maximum power is increased.

We may supply different brands (compatibles).
These SMA relays can easily be converted to N relays by using short patch
cables and bulkhead N-SMA adapters you mount on the instrument's panel.
You don't have to solder plugs in this fashion.
The relays are usable to some hundreds of Watts provided you close the
contacts before applying HF (see above).
